CGM Data-Driven Insulin Management System Integration

Our client, a leading healthcare company with a strong presence in diabetes care, sought to push forward its diabetes solutions by developing an advanced insulin management system. The project focused on creating an ecosystem where Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) devices could interface with insulin pumps through both mobile and web platforms. The end goal was to streamline insulin delivery by automating it based on real-time glucose measurements, providing users and healthcare providers with a seamless experience in managing diabetes care.  

The project’s objectives were to:  

1. Develop an advanced data extraction system to capture and process real-time glucose data from CGM devices.  

2. Create an intuitive mobile and web interface that displays glucose levels and manages insulin dosage.  

3. Enable automated insulin delivery through insulin pumps directly connected to the CGM system.  

4. Securely manage and transmit data using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations.

The project scope included multiple integrated components, from hardware and software development to data engineering and interface design. Key aspects of the project included:

  • Integrating CGM devices with insulin pumps via BLE to facilitate real-time data communication.

  • Data Extraction and Preprocessing: Designed processes to extract real-time glucose data, then cleanse and preprocess it for reliable calculations.  
  • Data Storage Solutions: Implemented secure, scalable cloud storage for archiving historical data.  
  • Real-Time Data Processing: Utilized stream processing frameworks to enable real-time insulin dosage calculations.  
  • Machine Learning Integration: Developed predictive models for glucose level forecasting using historical data to further refine insulin delivery strategies.
